    Who We Are

Madness, utter madness this idea of Marcello Palma to transform a XVII century barn, close to Padana, into a House for modern art. Imagine; in the beginning there was this barn in bad condition, now there is a great gallery, a space for the artists, Marcello Palma discovered during his 20 years of experience acquired ad international art fairs around the world. Some say that this is an undertaking without a future. But Palma had this dream he now realised in 5 years time; cleaning old bricks one after the other, recuperating and saving beautiful old wooden structures creating spaces in the roof, mounting large windows in the openings foreseen formerly to enter the straw. The result is an extraordinary and unique space. A perfect mixture of vast exhibition spaces and more intimate places for discussion, exchange and reflexion. Thus was born Palma Arte a special gallery, different from all the others, between shop and "salon"; the traditional space for public exhibition and the more private one of confession. Outside one can be find the happening and the show space. Besides the 360 m interior there is the gardenspace, the court and the portico. The external walls are like a frame to the pictures exhibited outside. The hightened loggia is a kind of stage for concerts, theatre performances, poetry evenings, happenings of all kinds. Palma Arte is a center of cultural promotion with a particular accent on modern international art, a pole of attraction for artists, gallerists, critics, collectors, artlovers and "simple" curious people. Not only a gallery, but a place where art is not an object in the shopwindow, but a stimulation, an occasion of discussion and encounter.

The tenants of Palma Arte are the works of some 50 painters, sculptures, engraves – figurative and abstract – shown on the two stories of the center. Italians, most of them better known abroad, like the fabulous Paolo da San Lorenzo of the Marche, and some shown exclusively by Marcello Palma in Italy. Than, Australians, Coreans, Vietnamese, Uruguayans (Pablo Atchugarry), French and Dutch, a big family of artists who in Saliceto di Alseno have their place. Besides modern painters, Palma Arte shows regularly the art of Mario Schifano, Domenico Cantatore, Mino Maccari, Domenico Purificato, André Masson and original and graphics works on paper of the giants of the XIX century, such us De Chirico, Carrà, Guttuso and Alinari. Speaking of paper, even the white sheets are of best value. They are extra pure, hand made, cottonsheets, Marcello Palma native of Fabriano orders from the worlds best papermakers in Fabriano. On this type of paper, the drawing, inks and acquarelles of the Palma Arte become precious originals, fascinating artist cahiers. Stamped with low-reliefs in cellulosis, many sheets loose their bi-dimensional character and become half painting, half sculpture.
